About Alexa

Alexa Joiner, M.S., CCC-SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist

Alexa is an Arizona native who earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The University of Arizona and her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Washington State University. Inspired by her younger sister—an artist with a genetic syndrome affecting communication—Alexa learned early on the profound impact that language has on connection and participation. This personal experience continues to fuel her commitment to helping every child find their voice.

Alexa brings extensive experience working in both school and home-based settings, with much of her career focused on supporting autistic students in private schools. In recent years, she has provided direct therapy services and supervised Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) in schools.

Her areas of expertise include expressive and receptive language delays, articulation and phonological disorders, fluency (stuttering), and social/pragmatic language. She is passionate about early intervention and is especially skilled in using play-based, child-led approaches to support language development in young learners. When she is not working, Alexa enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and being outdoors.

Parent/Caregiver Coaching

  • Speech Only Evaluation

  • Language Only Evaluation

  • Comprehensive Speech and Language Evaluation

Based on evaluation results, an individualized plan of care is created to address your child’s specific speech, language, and communication needs. The goal of therapy is to help your child develop the skills necessary to communicate effectively and confidently for their age.

Parents and caregivers play a vital role in supporting their child’s communication development. Coaching sessions are designed to empower families with practical strategies and confidence to encourage communication growth during everyday routines and play.

A comprehensive evaluation is essential in identifying your child’s areas of need and areas of strength to develop an individualized treatment plan. Evaluations include formal standardized assessments, behavioral observations, parent input, and background information.

Following the evaluation, findings and interpretations are reviewed in detail. If results indicate that therapy would be beneficial, recommendations and individualized goals will be provided and discussed with parents and caregivers. If therapy is not indicated, strategies for supporting communication at home or monitoring progress over time will be shared.

Areas that may be targeted during Speech-Language Therapy include:

  • Provide feedback during interactive play or daily routines.

  • Suggest activities to support speech and language goals at home.

  • Offer ongoing guidance as your child progresses.
